Collected Memories and Rooted Objects

Collected Memories and Rooted Objects broadly explores how we as humans collect and attach meaning and memory to the objects we encounter throughout our lifetimes. Ruminating on the relationship between object, memory, and the lived experience, this exhibition considers how we as humans involve the object in our lives as individuals and as a collective society.

Collected Memories and Rooted Objects spans the three primary exhibition spaces in the University Galleries. In the Brick City Gallery, East, Kerry Phillips created a site-specific sculptural installation utilizing locally sourced objects, many from the Department of Art + Design’s basement storage as well as junk drawers from faculty and staff. In the Carolla Arts Exhibition Center, Leticia Bajuyo is exhibiting cast iron sculptures surrounded by drawings on wood and on player piano rolls. The third part of Collected Memories and Rooted Objects features a juried body of work from Haelim Choi Allen, Ahmed Ozsever, and Jesse Ring. Juried by Leticia and Kerry, this group juried show is on exhibit in the Brick City Gallery, West.
